Advocacy & Government: The Bihar government presented an INR 2.18 lakh crore budget for FY 2021-22. No new taxes were announced and allocations have been increased for infrastructure and the social sector.
The state government has made the highest allocation of INR 38,035.93 crore for the education sector, followed by INR 16,835.67 crore for rural development, INR 15,227.74 crore for roads, INR 13,264.87 crore for health, and INR 8,560 crore for energy.
While presenting the revenue-surplus budget, Deputy Chief Minister Tarkishore Prasad, proposed introducing a separate department for skill development and entrepreneurship.
He also announced an allocation of INR 4,671 crore towards the second phase of his government’s flagship Saat Nischay (seven resolves) programme. Announced in 2015, this INR 2.7 lakh crore scheme included components such as electricity, sewage connection, toilets, piped drinking water, and metallic roads.
The second phase focuses on the promotion of entrepreneurship, skill enhancement, improvement of irrigation facilities, strengthening of health infrastructure, better connectivity, and development of clean and prosperous villages and cities.
