Education: Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE), part of the state’s General Education Department, has launched audiobooks for its students, with a special emphasis on visually challenged children.
A part of its First Bell digital classes, KITE has also released audiobooks and sign-language-adapted classes of ‘revision portions’ for grades 10 and 12 to help students prepare for their annual examinations.
According to K Anvar Sadath, CEO of KITE, these revision classes in the form of audiobooks will be like listening to a radio programme, and can be easily downloaded and shared in mp3 formats. This is the first such module in the country in the general education sector, and all materials are available on the First Bell portal.
Kerala introduced the First Bell digital classes in June 2020, as an interim arrangement for students in grades 1-12, during the pandemic. The listening module is the latest innovation in this series.
