Agriculture: Telangana Chief Minister, K Chandrasekhar Rao, has asked government officials to ensure that farmers are offered the minimum support price (MSP) for paddy with moisture content below 17 percent.
Since the passing of the three farm laws in September 2020, there has been uncertainty regarding the process of paddy procurement in the state. However, the chief minister has decided to procure paddy through 6,408 centres in villages across the state, as was done last year amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The objective of doing this at the village centres is to avoid overcrowding at the district headquarters. Officials have also been asked to keep 20 crore gunny bags ready at these procurement centres.
In 2020, paddy was cultivated on 52.76 lakh acres. The state expects an yield of 1.17 crore metric tonnes of the coarse variety paddy and 21 lakh metric tonnes of the fine variety paddy.
The chief minister has also asked his officers to identify lands to give to the Central Warehousing Corporation on lease, for constructing additional godowns to store the food grains.
