Education: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued a directive to set up 16 new Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across the state. These will be based on a public-private partnership (PPP) model. The admission process to these institutes is likely to start from August 2021.
ITIs are post-secondary schools constituted under the Directorate General of Training, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, to provide vocational training to young people across various aspects of trade.
The new ITIs are being set up with the aim of increasing the number of seats in vocational courses for electronics technicians, computer operators and programming assistants, machinist engineers, electronics mechanics, and so on. On completion of training, students will receive a certificate that will be recognised at the national level as well.
At present, more than 1.72 lakh students are undergoing skill training at 305 ITIs in Uttar Pradesh. The state government also plans to set up ITIs in remote regions to cater to the needs of the underprivileged sections of society.
