COVID-19: Serum Institute of India (SII) and Bharat Biotech have announced the prices at which they will sell their COVID-19 vaccines to state governments and private hospitals starting May 1st 2021. The differential pricing structure has been introduced following the April 19th, 2021 government directive which allows vaccine manufacturers to set their own prices for their vaccines.
SII has announced that it will charge state governments INR 400 and private hospitals INR 600 for each shot of Covishield. Bharat Biotech will charge states INR 600, while private hospitals will have to pay INR 1,200 for Covaxin. These prices are not inclusive of additional charges such as GST, transportation, or any other costs.
Even as the distribution of vaccines and the age-limits of individuals who can get vaccinated has been relaxed, those above the age of 45, and healthcare and frontline workers can continue to avail free vaccination through the central government’s stock.
However, several states such as Maharashtra, Delhi, Jharkhand, Haryana, Rajasthan, West Bengal, and Karnataka among others have announced that they will provide free vaccines to the people in their respective states.
